In February 2018, I started working as a PhD candidate within Project MIND (Multilingualism in Daycare). This project investigates how bilingual daycare (Dutch-English and Dutch-French) influences the acquisition of the first language (Dutch) and the second language (English or French).
I will focus on the acquisition and the development of the second language, by combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative developmental data will be collected by assessing grammar and vocabulary tests, qualitative approaches include classroom observations and conversation analyses. By doing so, I hope to answer three major questions: Does bilingual daycare have a positive effect on the development of the second language? What is the nature of the English/French input? And how do the children respond to this input?
