Dr. Gulzaar Barn works on the ethics and politics of reproduction. In particular, she's interested in the nature and justification of the family, feminist examinations of reproductive technologies, and the history and practice of (neo)eugenics and race science.
She joined the philosophy department at the University of Amsterdam in 2022. Since obtaining her DPhil (PhD) in Philosophy at the University of Oxford, she has held positions at the University of Birmingham, King's College London, and Utrecht University. She specialises in political philosophy and context-sensitive ethical inquiry. Her research has also explored topics in global justice and health such as embodied labour and exploitation.
Gulzaar is a member of the UvA Faculty of Humanities Ethics Committee, where she reviews research applications that involve human participants and data. She is the UvA representative at the OZSW (Dutch Research School of Philosophy) Ethics and Political Philosophy chamber.
