Research Interests

Phonetics, phonology and the phonetics-phonology interface
Speech perception and production
Speech and language acquisition
Neural mechanisms for speech and language processing

I am a PhD Candidate at the Amsterdam Centre for Language and Communication supervised by Paul Boersma. I am working on the project 'Primitives of Phonological Representations' which is funded by a 'PhD in the Humanities' grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). The project aims to combine insights from phonological theory and experimental phonetics and neuroscience to unravel the basic units of phonological representations.

In 2010, I received my BA in Linguistics from Leiden University. I received my MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2012. Research projects that I was involved in as a student include:

  • Speech and language development in children with cleft lip and/or palate
with Lisa Cheng and Claartje Levelt
  • A psycholinguistic model for phonological development
with Claartje Levelt
  • Categorisation of assimilated nasals in context
with Pienie Zwitserlood and Heidrun Bien
  • Phonological precursors to literacy
with James McQueen and Merel van Goch
  • Context-dependent perception of the /ʃ/-/s/ contrast
with Paul Iverson, Anita Wagner and James McQueen
